The Eastern Hindu Kush region of Pakistan faces significant challenges due to recurrent flooding, impacting local communities and infrastructure. This study proposes a comprehensive flood risk reduction plan designed by utilizing cutting edge geo-spatial approach in order to enhance the region’s resilience. Watershed Modelling, AHP models and weighted overlay analysis approaches were utilized to identify the potential sites for multipurpose dams, focusing on optimal locations for water storage and flood control. Additionally, suitable streams for check dams were pinpointed to further mitigate flood risks and support water management. Strategic plantation efforts were integrated to stabilize soil and reduce erosion, while relocation strategies for at-risk populations to designated flood-safe zones were developed to ensure community safety. This multifaceted approach aims to sustainably manage flood risks, improve local livelihoods, and promote long-term environmental resilience in the Eastern Hindu Kush. The findings underscore the importance of incorporating diverse risk reduction measures in regional planning, contributing to the broader goal of sustainable development.
