Valentín Fuster: A Life with Purpose
摘要
Born in Barcelona, Valentín Fuster trained in cardiology first in Scotland and later in New York in the Mount Sinai Hospital, where he has served for more than three decades as Director of the Department of Cardiology. He has also held prominent leadership roles, including Director of the Spanish Cardiovascular Center (CNIC) and President of the American Heart Association, exerting a profound influence on the field of cardiovascular medicine worldwide. His principle in Life is to take care of oneself. The eight keys to balance in Life are four T: time to reflect, talent, transmit positiveness and tutorship, whereas the four A are: to accept who you are, altruism, authenticity and attitude. His research has been particularly impactful in preventive cardiology, notably in demonstrating the importance of nutrition from early childhood in reducing cardiovascular risk later in life. His landmark contributions also include studies on myocardial infarction, the development and global implementation of the “polypill” concept, and innovative approaches to population-level cardiovascular prevention. Equally remarkable is his dedication to education and mentorship, training generations of cardiologists and advancing global cardiovascular health. His humanistic vision, encapsulated in his life philosophy of “move on”, inspires both his colleagues and the wider medical community. Valentín Fuster stands as a truly world-renowned cardiologist whose career continues to shape the future of cardiovascular medicine.
