Francisco Orts Llorca: The Anatomy and Development of Experimental Embryology

Francisco Orts Llorca was born in 1905 in Tampico, Mexico, to a family with a maritime background. Moving to Spain, he pursued medicine, showing a particular passion for anatomy. Orts excelled at the University of Valencia and completed further studies in Paris with Henri Rouvière, focusing on topographic anatomy and embryology with Eduard Fischel and W. Vogt. His career was marked by significant research contributions, notably on the lymphatic system and embryonic development. Despite political challenges during and after the Spanish Civil War, he became a renowned professor, publishing influential works and books, receiving numerous awards. Orts made critical advances in cardiac and ocular morphogenesis. He passed away in 1993, leaving a lasting legacy in anatomy.
