Environmental Concerns of Russian Youth in the Context of the Global Climate Crisis
摘要
The research focuses on the environmental concerns of Russian youth amid the worsening climate change. The empirical foundation for this research includes data from UNICEF and independent sociological surveys conducted through mass questionnaires. The authors highlight that Russian youth mostly do not share the global environmental concerns expressed by children and young people in other countries. Environmental values are not a priority for the vast majority of young Russians. Overall, young residents of Russian cities are relatively satisfied with the ecological state of their urban environments, positively assessing aspects such as landscaping, greenery, and the development of green spaces. However, Russian youth take a more critical view of the state of waste sorting in urban areas. The authors conclude that it is essential to develop civil society institutions and enhance environmental education and awareness among Russian youth to cultivate an ecological mindset aligned with the pressing climate crisis. This is particularly important as the younger generation will inevitably face the consequences of this crisis.
