Vertebral Body Tethering
摘要
For many years, fusion surgery was considered the gold standard in the treatment of scoliosis. It has been observed that long-level fusion causes loss of motion and problems at adjacent levels. Nowadays, to protect patients from fusion’s side effects, the non-fusion method seems a better solution for scoliosis surgical treatment. Currently, with vertebral body tethering (VBT) surgery, it is possible to correct scoliosis, and the arc of motion is preserved. While its first indication was for thoracic curves with growth potential, its indication increased over time. The radiological results reported in the literature are not as successful as fusion surgery, and complications are more common compared to fusion surgery. The reported complication is mostly related to tether breakage. Successful results have started to be reported with ideal patient selection, development of implants, and learning the technique.
