Digital Twins (DTs) are consolidating as a transformative technology across various industries. However, the increasing heterogeneity of DT implementations has led to increasing complexity in DT development and integration challenges between conceptual design and technical implementation. This paper presents a model-driven engineering method that faces these challenges by transforming Entity-Relationship Digital Twin conceptual models into platform-specific implementations based on the Web of Things standard. The integration with runtime platforms like Eclipse Ditto also demonstrates how our approach reduces technological complexity and improves its integration. In addition, we validate the proposed contributions through a real-world case study at Mercadona, Spain’s largest supermarket chain. Thus, this work contributes to the improvement of DT development by offering a practical solution to the challenge of technological fragmentation and complexity in DT industrial applications.

摘要
