This chapter presents the theoretical and methodological underpinnings of our analysis. It includes a discussion of four bodies of literature which influenced our analysis, specifically, cultural political economy, the dialectical-relational approach to critical discourse studies, critical realism, and a cognitive linguistic approach to critical discourse studies. Key concepts from these bodies of literature are used to theorize leadership imaginaries, to develop analytical categories, and to justify our selection of data.
