Recovery and Monitoring Postbronchoscopic Procedures
摘要
Complex ambulatory bronchoscopic procedures performed under general anesthesia are becoming more commonly seen in the hospital setting. Although traditionally many bronchoscopic procedures were performed under moderate sedation, the complexity of interventional bronchoscopic procedures often requires an immobile anesthetized patient in order to be performed successfully. The principles for monitoring and care in recovery after bronchoscopic procedures are the same as for surgical procedures. Regardless of the type of anesthesia used, patients must be monitored and cared for in a post anesthesia care unit (PACU) that can provide both phase 1 and 2 recovery. Adherence to the American Society of Anesthesiologists guidelines for PACU patient assessment and monitoring is imperative. This chapter outlines the standards of care for recovery from bronchoscopic procedures, covering commonly seen complications post-bronchoscopy, anesthesiology and nursing standards of care, patient assessment and monitoring, and discharge criteria.
