The advent of generative AI and large language models (LLMs) has created remarkable opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare. So far, generative AI has proven helpful for a variety of administrative, clerical and data-summarization tasks. AI is also very good at making accurate clinical diagnoses when complete patient data (case presentations) are available. AI is able to interview patients and collect basic information but is unable to duplicate the essential role that doctors play. AI offers the opportunity to support and enhance what doctors do, but for the foreseeable future, AI will not be ready to replace doctors.
