Inerter-Based Base Isolation System for Masonry Structures: Prototype Design and Realization
摘要
This paper describes the detailed design and realization of a hybrid base isolation system for seismic protection of masonry structures. The system combines standard base isolators with a tuned inerter damper, consisting of a grounded rack-and-pinion inerter connected in series to a set of linearly-elastic springs and a viscous dashpot in parallel. On adopting a fixed-point tuning procedure to estimate optimal stiffness and viscous damping coefficient of the springs/dashpot, for a given inertance of the inerter, numerical analyses demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed hybrid base isolation system.
