Which Way Forward?
摘要
This concluding chapter examines the policy and theoretical implications of the women’s narratives. The definition of poverty utilized throughout the book has been that of quality of life, and the analysis so far has indicated that the low quality of life of the women is the result of the interactions among their age, gender, illiteracy, and rural residence. Loneliness, isolation, lack of access to basic conveniences of life, improper hygiene, and hunger are pertinent issues that undergird the women’s poverty. And, although the government has established programs to help the poor, it will need more than those programs to alleviate the old women’s poverty. Thus, the narratives raise possibilities that, if addressed, can improve the lives of old women and alleviate poverty not just in their community but also in similar communities nationwide and even beyond.
