This chapter further demonstrates the generality and advantages of estimating a more generalized functional, \(z_{2\tau }(t)=Fx(t)+F_dx(t-\tau )+F_{dd}x(t-2\tau )\) for time-delay systems considered in Chap. 13. This class of time-delay systems has a single time delay, \(\tau \) , in both state and output vectors. Here, compared with z(t) considered in Chap. 13, \(z_{2\tau }(t)\) has an extra term, namely, \(F_{dd}x(t-2\tau )\) . We provide extensive numerical examples to discuss the design of various types of generalized functional observers for this class of time-delay systems.
