This chapter deals specifically with the breeding of guinea fowl, with the aim of simplifying and making the process more efficient. In the interest of producing guinea fowl all year round, a breeding procedure by artificial insemination has been chosen, allowing, in addition to being able to select the best breeders and good yields in terms of chick production and to ensure the sanitary conditions of the whole process. The method chosen to extract the semen from the cockerels was the dorsal-abdominal massage method developed by Burrows and Quinn, with particularities derived from the experience gained in this task over years of experience. With regard to the eggs obtained, a detailed health programme for hatching eggs is specified, as well as the conditions and management of the incubator in order to obtain the chicks. The minimum ratio of non-viable chicks to healthy chicks is given in a table specifying the corresponding aetiologies.

摘要
