The Future of Vocational Education: Exploring the “Synergy” Between Micro-Skills, Micro-Credentials, and Vocational Open Online Courses in Vocational Training Institutes in Greece

This paper examines the “Synergy” between Micro-Skills, Micro-Credentials, and Vocational Open Online Courses in Vocational Training Institutes in Greece. Specifically, we analyze micro-credentials as a form of recognition and Vocational Open Online Courses as a platform for integration, as it “works” in the Thematic School of Advanced Vocational Training, Egaleo. We aim to explore how these components integrate to provide more relevant, accessible, and flexible training that addresses the evolving needs of learners and employers. Using the Thematic School of Advanced Vocational Training in Egaleo as a case study, we examine the definitions and applications of micro-skills, micro-credentials, and Vocational Open Online Courses, as well as their outcomes for skill development within Vocational Training Institutions. Our analysis describes the present and future of Vocational Education and Training through that synergy.
