This study explores the key factors influencing both individual and team employee performance by conducting a systematic literature review complemented with bibliometric analysis. This review is based on 50 empirical journal articles sourced from Elsevier’s Scopus database. This study employed VOSviewer and Biblioshiny tools to map the research landscape and uncover patterns in publication trends, influential authors, countries, and thematic clusters. The paper addresses four research questions that examine the current state of research in employee performance, its theoretical foundations and performance measures, the determinants impacting individual and team performance, and the potential avenues for future inquiry. The bibliometric analysis highlights prominent themes and subtopics, while the literature review critically synthesizes theories, definitions, antecedents, and key performance indicators. Furthermore, the study incorporates emerging trends from recent publications to bridge existing research gaps and suggest directions for future research and managerial practice. This comprehensive overview offers insights for academicians and practitioners to deepen their understanding of employee performance and develop targeted interventions to enhance workplace outcomes.
