Artificial intelligence (AI) tools are increasingly being integrated into higher education, offering students support with time management, content understanding, and writing enhancement. Despite their rising popularity, limited research has explored how AI tools influence study habits and academic performance in colleges. This study aims to explore how AI tools might improve academic performance, identify the best applicable AI tools, and analyze whether students who use AI in their study habits achieve better academic outcomes compared to their peers who use conventional tools. A quantitative method through a Google Form survey was conducted among 350 college students from different majors. Participants were categorized into three groups based on their primary study method: AI users, traditional method users, and balanced users. The survey was conducted in English and Arabic, and data were collected on students’ AI usage frequency, specific AI tools used, and their effect on academic performance. The results of the survey were analyzed using pie charts and bar charts. Findings showed that AI users, especially those who balanced it with traditional methods, reported improved study performance, better time management, and higher writing quality. ChatGPT and Grammarly were the most used tools. However, there were some concerns that included over-reliance on AI and the accuracy of its content. The results highlight AI’s potential as a valuable educational support tool when used ethically and in moderation. In addition, it can be efficient for learning if used properly. It can help students manage their time better, understand more complex subjects, and increase their academic outcomes. This research also suggests that universities should integrate AI properly so they can get the most benefits of AI for students while preserving academic integrity.
