Introduction
摘要
This chapter presents an overview of the effects of modernity on African oral tradition. The approaches outlined in the chapter capture the various transformations and complexities that are encountered in trying to trace the mobility of an African aesthetic existing both as oral and written forms. The objective of this preliminary chapter is to show how scripting, modern literature, the media, popular culture, information technology, and globalization have enlarged the domain of African orality. The chapter reaffirms the claim that oral tradition is not a static culture but remains ever changing and dynamic.
