AI and Curriculum
摘要
This chapter explores the applications and implications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on educational curricula in the Global South. It examines how curricula, which help structure and guide educational systems, are being reshaped by the integration of AI, both as a critical area of student competency through AI literacy and by changing what and how curricula is delivered from foundational literacy and 21st-century skills. The chapter navigates key questions: How can curriculum design remain relevant in an age of AI amidst vast student heterogeneity and evolving social demands? What balance should be drawn between knowledge acquisition, skill development, and the critical competencies needed for life and work in an AI-shaped world? Through comparative analysis of national AI curriculum models, and uses of AI to support the delivery and personalization of the curriculum, the chapter highlights both the promise and limitations of such curricular reform. It argues that meaningful and equitable impact will not stem from piecemeal plans, but from comprehensive, system-wide efforts. The chapter argues that integrating AI into curricula must be grounded in local realities, be systematically coherent, and co-created with teachers and communities. Only then can AI contribute to closing learning gaps, fostering critical citizenship, and building just and responsive educational ecosystems for all learners.
