Ultrasound of the gastrointestinal tract has become a first-line tool for the study of acute and chronic intestinal diseases, for purely diagnostic purposes and the follow-up of gastrointestinal diseases. It is a safe, non-invasive technique with a variable learning curve. Its use has progressively increased over the years, not only in gastroenterology but also in other medical and surgical specialties. It is a versatile method, utilized in both emergency and elective settings. Nowadays, it is possible to accurately assess the main features of the intestinal wall, such as thickness, echo pattern, vascularity, and motility to evaluate various gastrointestinal diseases.
