Introduction
摘要
In this book, the Netherlands Scientific Council for Government Policy (WRR) considers the transformation of the information environment through a democratic lens. Driven by processes of digitalisation and platformisation, a new hybrid media system has emerged. In this system, markets change rapidly while big platform and technology corporations have seen their powers grow. The book evolves around the question whether and to what extent (journalistic) media are still in the position to adequately and effectively fulfil their democratic role in society. This first chapter introduces the problem and presents the set-up and structure of the book.
