Conclusion and Policy Recommendations
摘要
Extreme weather events adversely affect people by making them vulnerable to socio-economic conditions. Older people are the most vulnerable to the impact of extreme weather events and have a low adaptive capacity to cope with severe climate disasters and their impact on their socio-economic conditions. This book has examined the impact of extreme weather events on the vulnerability of older people and explored how social protection programmes respond to their vulnerability. It has attempted to address the following questions: (a) Why are older people in coastal Bangladesh vulnerable to extreme weather events? (b) How do extreme weather events exacerbate the vulnerability of older people in coastal Bangladesh? and (c) How do social protection programmes address the vulnerability of older people in coastal Bangladesh? These questions were examined using the lived experiences of many older people in the coastal region of Bangladesh, which is subject to recurrent extreme weather events.
