Cognitive behavioral approach (CBA) is a type of psychotherapy that aims to modify cognitive distortions through cognitive and behavioral techniques, thereby enhancing resilience. This approach does not to aim to cure but to help clients develop more effective coping strategies to deal with stress. The cognitive components include identifying automatic thoughts and underlying maladaptive assumptions, testing automatic thoughts and maladaptive assumptions, cognitive challenges, generating alternatives and reattributions, using self-instruction, and applying new assumptions. Behavioral techniques include scheduling activities, tracking mastery and pleasure, graded task assignments, behavioral rehearsal, self-reliance training, role-playing, and diversion techniques.
