This research stresses the humanist conceptualisation of trust rooted in human self-trust and communication which classifies trust as an ethical and epistemic condition for the possibility of cooperative life. Considering artificial intelligence (AI), we assess that AI should not meet the criteria to qualify for trust. We claim that the discussion of trust in AI is misguided and instead propose a digital humanist perspective on trust to allow for human agency in human- technology relations. From a digital humanist perspective, trust in artificial intelligence lacks the foundational communicative and ethical grounding that characterises humanistic trust. Instead, the relation between AI and humans should not exceed reliance as a trust relation between humans and AI systems would imply the moral agency of AI systems.

摘要
