Drawing on a Māori proverb which calls for widespread peace, this chapter explores the writers’ life as a Māori woman over five decades. She begins by describing her challenging early years, alongside the ongoing joys and trials of raising her own family. The writers personal reflections of her personal journey, examines how she overcame many challenges through meditation, family and community support, and her commitment to recording Waitaha traditions to uphold a sacred peace covenant. In doing so, she has explored her own personal pathway towards enlightenment, a legacy handed down from her prophetic great-great-grandfather Te Maihāroa and her peaceful Waitaha ancestors.
