This final chapter addresses the theoretical relationship between bioethics and political theory and argues that despite the common division of labor that separates the two disciplines, they are in fact much more interconnected than it might seem at first glance. I contend that accounting for the political conditions in which the subjects of bioethics are usually discussed is crucial to exhaustive normative analysis, as matters that pertain to the political, such as structural injustice, demand political answers. Following this line of thought, I then argue for a politicization of assisted dying, that is a proper acknowledgement of how a society’s political background, in this case again structural injustice, inevitably interfaces with assisted dying policies and their effects. I conclude by laying out some potential future research avenues to that end.
