Decoding the 4D Roles of E-Commerce in Entrepreneurship: A Systematic Review of Perspectives for Future Research
摘要
Integrating e-commerce into entrepreneurship has become a pivotal force in the digital economy, offering opportunities for business innovation, ecosystem development, and sustainability. However, fragmented research across e-commerce types and entrepreneurship types reveals notable gaps. This study aims to systematically review the global status of literature on the roles, perspectives, and future directions of e-commerce in entrepreneurship. Distinguishing from previous fragmented works, this research employs a structured Systematic Literature Review (SLR) guided by the PRISMA protocol, focusing exclusively on peer-reviewed journal articles from Scopus (2020–2024). Using the Gioia grounded theory method, the findings identify four key roles of e-commerce in entrepreneurship—digital deployment, development ecosystems, distribution optimization, and dynamic sustainability—collectively termed the “4D Roles.” Perspective intersection matrix analysis shows that social entrepreneurship frequently aligns with B2C and O2O e-commerce types, while substantial research gaps persist in C2C e-commerce, G2G e-commerce, and franchise-related entrepreneurship. E-commerce is integral in expanding entrepreneurial capabilities, yet scholarly attention remains uneven across entrepreneurship and e-commerce typologies. The findings imply that future research should explore micro-level skill building, meso-level ecosystem collaborations, and macro-level policy structures to foster inclusive digital entrepreneurship.
