Participatory Budgeting in Japan: Something to Learn from the Brazilian PB?
摘要
This chapter examines five cases of Participatory Budgeting (PB) in Japan to analyse the extent to which pioneering experiences from Brazil have influenced their implementation. The study highlights how local adaptations and external influences shape participatory mechanisms, revealing that despite shared inspirations, contextual variations produce distinct forms of civic engagement. This comparative analysis enriches the understanding of how PB evolves when adapted to culturally and politically diverse environments, emphasising both the resilience and transformation of democratic practices.
