While the gendered division of labour has been discussed within feminist activist and academic circles for decades, care work has only recently emerged as a topic of public policy and international development. Care has nonetheless been a focus of policy intervention in Latin America for many years, and the region’s best practices and international lobbying have contributed to shaping global narratives and inspiring policy action, including in the Global North. This chapter will shed light on the multiple factors, actors, and favourable conditions that allowed the region to consolidate itself as a pioneer for such innovative policies, ultimately influencing both international spaces and domestic policymaking in Spain.
