It takes a great deal of intellectual courage and a fair amount of talent for a researcher to venture himself in a such a variety of fields such as Walter Carnielli did—and still does—along his career. Throughout more than 50 years dedicated to academic work, Carnielli has made important contributions to logic, mathematics, and philosophy, not only through his research activities, but also through the many graduate students he has supervised, as well as other students and researchers whom he has inspired and helped to train.
