Multidisciplinary Approach to the Management of Mine-Explosive Injury of the Periorbital Region
摘要
Mine-explosive injuries of the periorbital region during the war in Ukraine have major medical and social consequences. They cause complex orbital and soft tissue damage and are often combined with multiple facial injuries. This section outlines the relevance of combat ocular trauma and reviews modern treatment strategies. A multidisciplinary approach is emphasized. It includes staged orbital reconstruction with patient-specific 3D implants, evisceration or enucleation of the injured eye, orbital implant placement to restore orbital volume, and repair of the eyelids and conjunctival cavity. The roles of oculoplastic and maxillofacial surgeons, otolaryngologists, and ocular prosthetics specialists are described. Current strategies for preventing and correcting scar deformities are presented, such as maintaining orbital volume, monitoring the conjunctival cavity, and reducing post-prosthetic complications. Coordination among specialists and the use of advanced technologies allow restoration of both function and aesthetics in patients with severe orbital and periorbital blast injuries.
