Being the President of a Society
摘要
Surgeons are natural leaders. We do it every day in the operating room. As women surgeons, the demanding nature of our practice can make it difficult to balance career and family responsibilities. Despite this, many of us find great fulfillment in pursuing leadership roles outside of our local and regional environments. National surgical societies can offer a rewarding opportunity to network with others who are similarly passionate about their chosen field of practice. Becoming the president of a surgical society requires some calculated decisions and contributions, sacrifices of time and effort, and a bit of being in the right place at the right time. I hope to provide a little insight into that journey and the fulfillment it can bring when achieved.
