The fashion sector is one of the largest providers to environmental pollution and social inequality, making sustainability a crucial issue. The rise of fast fashion has resulted in excessive resource consumption, increasing carbon emissions, and growing textile waste. High water usage, chemical pollution, and energy-intensive production processes significantly impact the environment, while unethical labour conditions raise serious concerns about social sustainability. With the growing awareness of sustainability in fashion, the adoption of eco-friendly materials and innovative production techniques has gained momentum. Various sustainable solutions have emerged, including eco-friendly materials, innovative production techniques, and circular business models. Nowadays, fashion brands are increasingly adopting sustainable practices to minimize their environmental impact and promote ethical production. Many global brands have committed to reducing their carbon footprint by using eco-friendly materials such as organic cotton, recycled polyester, and bio-based fabrics. Additionally, innovative production techniques like waterless dyeing, 3D knitting, and digital fashion are being integrated to reduce waste and resource consumption. Another major shift is the adoption of circular economy models, where brands promote clothing rental, resale, and take-back programs to extend the lifecycle of garments. Companies such as Patagonia, Levi’s, and H&M have introduced initiatives that encourage customers to return old clothes for recycling or resale. Some brands are also experimenting with biodegradable textiles and regenerative farming practices to create a more sustainable supply chain. This chapter will cover key strategies such as the use of organic and recycled fibres, low-impact dyeing processes, 3D knitting, and digital fashion. Furthermore, concepts like slow fashion, zero-waste design, and upcycling are discussed, illustrating how brands and consumers can contribute to sustainability. Moreover, the role of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and digitalization in augmenting transparency and sustainability are also be discovered.
