How Can the Implementation of Best Sustainable Practices in the Urban Freight Transport Sector Help the Logistics Sector Achieve Sustainable Development Goals?
摘要
Urban logistics decision-makers face significant challenges in balancing operational efficiency with sustainability in urban freight transport (UFT). The increasing demand for fast deliveries, traffic congestion, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and the need to minimize environmental impacts require the adoption of innovative and integrated strategies. In this context, it is essential to identify and implement best practices that optimize activity levels, promote the transition to low-carbon transport systems, reduce energy consumption, and enhance fuel efficiency by lowering carbon intensity. This chapter presents a comprehensive literature review aimed at mapping and analyzing the potential of best practices in UFT to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the United Nations Organization. The study explores various approaches, including public policies for sustainable urban logistics, technological innovations such as fleet electrification and logistics process digitalization, and collaborative solutions like freight consolidation and the use of alternative transport modes. By gathering and evaluating these practices, this study seeks to provide valuable insights for policymakers, businesses, and researchers interested in driving the sustainable transformation of the urban freight transport sector.
