Parties and the Representation of Diverse Groups
摘要
Political parties can provide marginalized or underrepresented groups with access to mainstream politics, but parties also have an incentive to keep them on the sidelines. Marginalized groups have sometimes achieved progress through parties but at other times have made greater gains through cross-party alliances or nonpartisan activism. The dynamics of interest groups and group-party interactions favor narrow and privileged interests over the interests of either broad or marginalized groups.
