Climate Change and Women’s Health: Understanding Heat Vulnerability in Hilly Urban Centers of the Earth
摘要
This commentary delves into the crucial realm of global sustainable urban development and its impact on women’s health in the context of climate change-induced heat vulnerability. Our focus is on the repercussions of extreme heat events on women residing in urban centers within hilly regions worldwide, despite the limitations in available academic research. Although the planned commentary did not yield significant results, we are committed to highlighting the significance of this topic. While there is a limited literature on climate change effects in urban hilly regions, we recognize the importance of acknowledging the unique challenges that women face in these areas. Stemming from physiological differences and limited access to resources, which are especially pronounced in impoverished urban communities, it is imperative that this aspect is further studied. The gendered nature of women’s vulnerability to heat-related challenges in these areas remains an underexplored facet of the broader climate change and public health discourse. This commentary emphases the necessity of recognizing and addressing these gender dimensions. It is pivotal in formulating evidence-based policies and interventions, paving the path toward sustainable urban development and equitable resource distribution. We strive for a more compassionate and resilient future, safeguarding the health and well-being of women in the face of climate change’s relentless challenges.
