History of the World Federation of Neurology
摘要
Specialization in medicine began in the second half of the nineteenth century. Neurology, first associated with psychiatry and internal medicine, gradually became independent in the first half of the twentieth century. The first World Congress of Neurology (WCN) is considered the one held in Bern in 1931. In 1957, the World Federation of Neurology (WFN) was founded during the sixth WCN meeting in Brussels. Johan A. Aarli’s 2014 book covers a lot of information on the history of the WFN. After a brief introduction of the history of neurology as a specialty and a summary of Aarli’s book, this chapter describes the continued evolution of the WFN (2010–2024), particularly on international relations, publications and communication, global education, specialty groups, and committees.
