Weaving Resistance: Helena Bochořáková-Dittrichová’s Wordless Narratives
摘要
This chapter examines the wordless woodcut narratives of Czech artist Helena Bochořáková-Dittrichová (1894–1980), focusing on Indiani Jindy a Dnes (1934), which depicts Native American history from pre-colonial times through colonization. The analysis shows how a European artist critiqued colonialism by drawing parallels between Native American experiences and Central European histories of occupation. The chapter argues that Bochořáková-Dittrichová’s vision of women-led communities centered on weaving and craft offers alternatives to colonial violence while demonstrating the transnational reach of woodcut modernism.
