Study on the Natural Frequency of a Warren Truss Using FEM and Experimental Measurements

This work provides a comparative analysis of the natural frequencies of a Warren truss, using numerical simulations via the Finite Element Method (FEM) in SolidWorks Simulation and experimental measurements conducted with a LabView-based data acquisition system. The truss consists of seven elements joined by M6 structural steel bolts and was subjected to well-defined boundary conditions. The FEM analysis provided modal eigenfrequencies along with the deformation patterns specific to each mode, which were then validated through experimental testing. The study highlights the relative errors between the two approaches and discusses potential sources of discrepancy, factoring in how the stiffness at the joints alters the structural dynamic performance. The results contribute to a deeper understanding of the vibrational behavior of truss structures and support the validation of numerical models for engineering applications.
