Body Balance Modification During Virtual Reality Session with Applications in Education

Innovative technologies have an important impact on nearly every aspect in the life of a modern individual. Among these, Virtual Reality (VR) stands out as a powerful tool with significant potential for education, scientific research, sport or public health applications. Recent research has demonstrated both the positive effects of engaging with virtual environments and the potential adverse impacts on physiological functions. VR immerses users in simulated environments that often challenge their sensory integration and spatial awareness. The effects of VR on balance were particularly emphasized in relation to human body static equilibrium. This paper presents the influence of VR sessions on body balance. The participant was engaged in 5-min educational VR session. A pressure distribution measurement platform (Zebris FDM) was used to assess the body balance. Participant’s feelings and emotions were subjectively analyzed using specific questionnaire before and after the VR session. The preliminary results indicate that using VR tools in educational activities may increase participant engagement but could influence the body balance immediately after the end of the VR session.
