Deepfake is a revolutionary but controversial technology that opened the doors to a whole new world of synthetic media creation. While these tools have opened new areas of entertainment, education, and creativity, they also carry significant risks like misinformation, privacy violations, and malicious application. This study performs a bibliometric analysis of deepfake research using the database from Elsevier’s Scopus searching the keywords deepfake and deepfakes, where 10,754 articles could be obtained. The study identifies key trends, emerging topics, and research domains. These findings emphasize the detection technologies and media analysis as of the at most importance, deeply interconnected with information security, digital communication, and human-centric studies. These findings reinforce the urgency of developing advanced detection tools, regulatory frameworks, and global cooperation to counter the threats from deepfakes. This study lays the foundation for the development of studies and strategies targeting key areas of research in this rapidly evolving field by mapping the research landscape.

摘要
