The MR brakes belong to the family of friction-free braking systems and are also part of brake-by-wire category brakes. In the present brake, two configurations of MR drum brake have been designed, fabricated and studied. The first configuration is side placed electromagnet and the second is centre placed electromagnet. After designing and braking performance study of the first configuration of MR drum brake i.e. SE-MRDB, the second configuration i.e. CE-MRDB has been designed by considering the limitation of the first one and its braking performance has been studied. The braking performance of both designed MR drum brakes has been studied using the Indian standard of braking on brake inertia dynamometer. The braking performance of both the brakes has been compared and conclusions have been made based on the obtained results.

摘要
