Age-related changes in the gastrointestinal (GI) system dramatically affect medication pharmacokinetics. Although pre-treatment testing is not common for GI conditions, pharmacogenomic (PGx) data exists for common GI medications. Case scenarios are proposed and explored to illustrate how PGx data can inform treatment plans through appropriate integration of genetic and other factors.
