The growing interconnectivity of industrial networks enables new applications but poses security and performance challenges. To solve these challenges for industrial networks, researchers develop new algorithms and mechanisms. The evaluation of these solutions requires traffic simulation, which in turn requires realistic topologies and traffic traces. However, in most cases, topologies and traffic traces of industrial networks are confidential due to security concerns of factory operators. In previous work, we addressed the lack of disclosable industrial topologies and traffic traces with GeNESIS. GeNESIS generates realistic industrial network topologies and traffic traces. In this paper, we extend GeNESIS with output capabilities for common simulation tools, i.e., OMNeT++ and ns-3, and provide a step-by-step tutorial based on three realistic case studies.

摘要
