Overcoming Barriers to Thermal Energy Storage Adoption: A Stakeholder-Centric Approach in HYSTORE Project
摘要
Effective stakeholder engagement is pivotal for advancing innovative technologies in the energy transition, such as thermal energy storage (TES) systems. This study, part of the Horizon Europe-funded HYSTORE project, explores stakeholder perspectives to identify opportunities and challenges for TES implementation across four pilot sites in Spain, Austria, Sweden, and Ireland. Through semi-structured interviews with 23 stakeholders representing diverse sectors, including academia, local authorities, and industry, the research highlights varying levels of TES familiarity and identifies critical barriers such as high upfront costs, limited technical expertise, and insufficient market awareness. The findings emphasize the importance of tailored communication strategies, robust training programs, and scalable designs to promote TES adoption. Insights from this study contribute to refining HYSTORE’s TES solutions and advancing broader sustainable energy goals by aligning technological innovation with societal needs.
