The Smart Buildings Alliance for Smart Cities Italy ETS (SBA Italy), established in 2020, has developed comprehensive recommendations to advance the digitalization and energy efficiency of buildings across Europe, aligning with the Clima World Congress 2025 theme: “Decarbonized, healthy and energy conscious buildings in future climates.” This theme emphasizes decarbonization through deep energy renovation, healthy indoor environments, digital optimization of nearly zero energy buildings (NZEBs), and resilience to future climate impacts. Central to SBA Italy’s recommendations is the deployment of IoT Edge Computing, particularly through the “One Edge” initiative, which advocates for at least one IoT Edge Computer (EC) per building. This paper outlines the architectural, technical, and regulatory aspects of these recommendations, to demonstrate how edge computing supports sustainable, healthy, and resilient urban environments.
