When thinking about possible challenges in patient management, language disparities come to mind almost immediately. The disruption in the communication process that this difference creates profoundly affects the patient’s experience and care but also has far-reaching consequences on the providers and the healthcare system. This chapter is dedicated to exploring the effects of the language barrier on the patient and their family, the provider and the healthcare system, the reasons for these effects, and possible interventions to improve the causative situation and mitigate its consequences.
