Transition to School: Research, Policy, and Practice in Singapore during the First Quarter of the Twenty-First Century
摘要
Singapore has invested deeply in creating an ecosystem of support and care for early childhood transitions. This ecosystem is instrumental in enabling smooth transition experiences for many children and families through intersecting government policy, curriculum frameworks, and other initiatives over the last decade. This chapter focuses on typically developing Singapore children’s educational transitions from preschool to formal school (primary school). Positive change is noted in how preschools and schools prepare and support young children and their families. Still, tensions and dissonances have emerged in the discourse around transition in Singapore, particularly around the disjoint of play-based and academic curriculum. These need to be recognised and addressed further to improve the ecosystem of support and care currently in place.
