Impact of Emerging Contaminants to the Environment and Human Health
摘要
Pharmaceuticals, personal care items, endocrine-disrupting substances, microplastics, and industrial solvents are examples of emerging contaminants (ECs) that are increasingly being found in a variety of environmental matrices. Ecosystems and human health are seriously endangered by these pollutants, which are frequently not completely controlled or eliminated by traditional wastewater treatment methods. Through toxicity, endocrine disruption, and bioaccumulation, ECs can disturb aquatic life, resulting in a loss of biodiversity and changes to ecological processes. Chronic exposure in humans through tainted food, water, or soil has been connected to neurological, reproductive, and developmental problems. These pollutants' tenacity and broad dispersion highlight the pressing need for sophisticated detection techniques, legal frameworks, and environmentally friendly treatment plans. The origins, mechanisms, and effects of ECs are highlighted in this review, along with the significance of integrated measures to lessen their negative effects on the environment and human health.
