Visual Content as a Research Tool for Exploring the Phenomenon of Educational Indoctrination

The article examines classification of visual teaching aids, specifically visual representation, which includes dynamic visual content. The research studies the role of visual content in the process of indoctrination associated with manipulation of consciousness, establishment of dictatorship, authoritarian communication styles, suppression of individuality, suggestion, and aggression. The conducted research identifies and analyzes the dominant channel of information perception and respondents’ preferred types of visual content. The pedagogical experiment is based on the content analysis of feature films that clearly reveal the mechanisms of indoctrination and their use in real life. The experiment consisted of several stages. A multi-stage knowledge assessment was conducted. Initially, participants’ emotional impressions were analyzed, followed by their understanding and assimilation of the educational material. Students’ reflection was brought out by special questions revealing their attitudes towards events, emotional impressions, analysis of psychological phenomena reflected in the film. Essays written by participants helped to elicit their individual comprehension in recognizing indoctrination mechanisms based on the specified evaluation criteria. The obtained results confirm the effectiveness of applying visual content to study pedagogical and psychological phenomena of indoctrination.
