This chapter is divided into two parts. The first is a descriptive exercise, focusing on how the current provisions concerning the actus reus in the Sexual Offences Act 2003 could be applied to sexual interaction in the metaverse. However, I will argue that the current law is underinclusive and excessively phallocentric, especially considering the increasingly different ways that sexual interaction is experienced. The second part is a normative analysis. It will make some suggestions as to how we may wish to reformulate the provisions of the Sexual Offences Act 2003 to better accommodate the diverse reality of sexual interaction in modern society.

摘要

This chapter is divided into two parts. The first is a descriptive exercise, focusing on how the current provisions concerning the actus reus in the Sexual Offences Act 2003 could be applied to sexual interaction in the metaverse. However, I will argue that the current law is underinclusive and excessively phallocentric, especially considering the increasingly different ways that sexual interaction is experienced. The second part is a normative analysis. It will make some suggestions as to how we may wish to reformulate the provisions of the Sexual Offences Act 2003 to better accommodate the diverse reality of sexual interaction in modern society.
